You’re not alone. Below are common reflections I hear from the couples who took the step to find support:
-
Sometimes relationships can start to feel stagnant, stale, distant, or disappointing. Maybe you and your partner have lost your loving connection in the busy, mundane whirlwind that is life. Maybe you feel like you’ve lost yourself in the relationship trying to make everyone else happy. Or maybe there has been a breach of trust or built up hurt.
Whole Hearts Counseling can help you find yourselves - and your connection - again.
-
You can fight about dishes, in-laws, who didn’t feed the dog, sex, or insert your most common arguments, but they often happen in the same predictable way. Most couples can identify a typical pattern of conflict in their relationship. The difference is that some patterns are effective and help you move through conflict to connection, and others aren’t.
Sometimes the relationship isn’t the problem - the pattern is.
I will help you break down the pattern into familiar steps, identify which steps aren’t working, and figure out what to replace them with.
-
Sex is tricky. It’s vulnerable, often unspoken or unaddressed, and can fall off the rails real quick with a series of rejections, dismissals, missed cues, piles of stress, and eventual avoidance. Communication in general can be difficult. But communication about sex feels damn near impossible sometimes.
I will guide you through skilled communication tools that work for your specific relationship dynamic and challenge current ineffective cycles, all at the pace that works for you.
I will also help you understand differences in desire levels and learn how to navigate these in a way that reduces pressure and shame, because those aren’t sexy (and don’t serve us).
-
Of course you have! We grow and change more than we often realize. New people, experiences, conversations, and stages of life can shape what we need, how we communicate, and how we see ourselves. Our needs, boundaries, expectations, and ways of communicating can change when we change.
Sometimes the people around us are still responding to who we were, while we are trying to figure out who we are becoming.
And sometimes, our relationships don’t automatically grow with us.
It can be surprisingly easy to lose track of how much we’ve changed—or to expect others to understand changes we haven’t fully put into words ourselves.
I will help you make those changes more visible and teach tools for putting them into new context.
-
That’s okay! You don’t have to know exactly what you are coming to my office for. You’ve done a really important step in noticing that you want something to be different. Not knowing shouldn’t stop you from finding out.
I’m here to help and support. Let’s explore together.
The Process
Individuals
Explore. Heal. Find yourself.
I believe that participating in therapy is one of the highest forms of self-love. If you are in a season of “finding yourself” again, learning how to love yourself, or re-establishing your authenticity, let’s talk.
Your healing starts now, and I would be honored to be a part of your journey. At Whole Hearts Counseling, you can find support in a variety areas, including:
Depression & Anxiety
Self-Esteem
Break-ups, Separation, & Divorce
Self-Exploration & Finding your Authentic Self
Women’s Issues
Sexual Shame
Boundary Setting
Attention-Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
Therapy with me can feel like the place where you finally get to exhale. My hope is that you feel lighter walking out of my office (although sessions can feel heavy at times), while feeling heard, refreshed, and ready to challenge yourself.
I’ll help you navigate current narratives, assumptions, values, relationship dynamics, emotional regulation skills, patterns of people pleasing, and so much more.
Women
“A place where you can soften, reflect, and take care of you.”
Show up more authentically without abandoning your needs or “just going with it.”
See yourself clearly

Balance

You feel so deeply. You notice yourself lacking boundaries, giving more of yourself, and becoming resentful and worn out.
You don’t have to choose between endlessly giving to others or abandoning yourself. Here, you’re not something to be fixed, but understood. Together we’ll explore how to continue showing up for those you love, while learning to show up for yourself, too.
Pre-Marital
You’re taking a major step! Do it with intention.
Whether you’re engaged or seriously dating, pre-marital counseling can be a tool for you to set the stage for a wonderful, healthy marriage. We’ll discuss many aspects of marriage, your values, and your future together. While you may agree on most things, I’ll help set you up with skills to have the inevitable difficult conversations when you don’t see eye to eye.
Why pre-marital counseling?
What are some topics that are often discussed in pre-marital counseling?
-Raising a family/parenting (if applicable)
-Problem solving/conflict resolution patterns
-How each of you express emotion
-How you feel loved & how you show love
-Religion/spirituality (if applicable)
-Finances
-Families of origin
-Support systems
-Sex
-Attachment styles
More questions about pre-marital counseling
-
I want therapy to be your unique experience. Whole Hearts Counseling offers a couple different pre-marital experiences: (more) structured vs. unstructured. Kaylan is certified in a pre-marital program called Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts (SYMBIS).
-
Premarital therapy provides a space for you and your partner to talk through aspects of your future marriage that are important to you. While you may agree on many things, premarital therapy helps set you up with skills to have difficult conversations later on when you don’t see eye to eye.
-
Here are just a few:
-More understanding between you and your partner
-Uncovering values within your relationship that you want to carry into your marriage
-Learning new things about one another
-Putting into words what you have already seen/experienced in your relationship (emotional expression, love languages, frustrations, etc)
-Gaining skills for emotional connection, expression, resolving conflict, and discussing hard topics
